24But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men.
25He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man.
I heard a story of a man who quit church, because he thought that his wife was talking about him to the preacher. She wasn't, by the way, but every sermon hit home, because the preacher submitted himself to the will of God and the word of God spoke through him.
In today's Gospel text, Jesus cleansed the temple and did many miraculous things. Verse 23 says that many people "believed in Him". But verse 24 tells us that "Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men."
We think we do a great thing, when we BELIEVE in Jesus, or when we ACCEPT Jesus. If I didn't know better, after listening to some Christians, I would think that Jesus had a real self-esteem problem.
Jesus doesn't need your belief, or your acceptance to be Lord. He is Lord! Our response is to submit to his Lordship.
"He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man."
Jesus doesn't need our testimony about him, to know whether or not we are saved. Jesus knows what is in you. He wants to see our submission, when He looks inside our being.
This is the source of true freedom in Christ. When we submit to Christ's Lordship, we do not need to worry about our position with Him.
When we submit to Him, He accepts us. We are loved by Him.
And more importantly, no man can judge us, because God is our judge. We live, move and grow in His grace and mercy.
Amen!
